The project was designed to reduce operational energy costs while improving long-term energy resilience.

Project Overview

We delivered a large-scale commercial solar PV and battery storage system for COPE Ltd in Shetland, designed to reduce operational energy costs and improve long-term energy resilience.

The installation formed part of a wider electrical package, including full wiring, fire alarm systems, and emergency lighting - providing a fully integrated solution for the new-build site.

The Challenge

The system needed to perform efficiently within DNO export limitations across a 3-phase supply while maximising on-site energy usage for a commercial load profile.

It also had to integrate seamlessly into a new-build electrical installation, maintain high levels of safety, monitoring, and control, and be carefully coordinated alongside other trades during construction.

The Solution

We designed and installed a tailored commercial solar and battery system to meet the site’s requirements:

  • 21kWp solar PV array using 42 × 500W Eurener panels
  • Mounted on a trapezoidal metal roof with a K2 system
  • Sigenergy 17kW three-phase hybrid inverter
  • 2 × 9.04kWh SigenStorbatteries (18.08kWh total storage)
  • 3-phase system with export limited to 3.68kW per phase
  • Tigo optimisers on all modules with cloud-based monitoring

The installation was delivered alongside the wider electrical works, with a clean rooftop layout and a neat, well-structured internal setup.

Performance & Results

The system is expected to generate approximately 14,910 kWh annually, supplying around 48% of the site’s energy demand.

Shetland Home Co (part of COPE Ltd) reopened in April 2026, with reduced operational energy costs and improved efficiency, with battery storage enabling excess solar energy to be stored and used during peak demand periods.

COPE Ltd now benefits from a high-performance, future-ready solar and battery system that reduces energy costs, improves sustainability, and integrates seamlessly within a complete electrical installation.
