Project Overview
George Robertson recently completed one of our largest commercial solar PV and battery storage installations for COPE Ltd at Port Business Park, Lerwick.
The project was designed to significantly reduce electricity costs by harnessing renewable energy whilst maximising self-consumption through advanced battery storage technology.
Following the success of the initial installation, the customer chose to expand the battery storage with additional 18.08kWh Sigenergy battery, increasing total storage capacity to 36.16kWh and allowing even more solar energy to be utilised on-site.
The installed PV system has an estimated annual generation of approximately 31,000kWh.
The Challenge
COPE Ltd wanted to reduce its dependence on grid electricity while making better use of the available roof space on its commercial premises.
With relatively high daytime electrical demand, the business required a system capable of generating significant renewable energy while storing excess production for later use.
The objective was to reduce operating costs, improve energy efficiency and future-proof the site against rising electricity prices.
Our Solution
George Robertson designed and installed a high-performance commercial solar PV system incorporating 42 premium Eurener bifacial solar panels connected to a 17kW three-phase Sigenergy hybrid inverter.
To improve performance and maximise output across the array, every panel was fitted with a Tigo optimiser, providing module-level optimisation, monitoring and rapid shutdown functionality.
An 18.08kWh Sigenergy battery was installed alongside the PV system to capture excess daytime generation.
Following several months of operation, the customer was delighted with the system's performance and elected to install a second 18.08kWh battery, increasing the total storage capacity to 36.16kWh. This additional storage allows even more surplus solar generation to be retained and used during periods of higher demand, further reducing reliance on imported electricity.
Performance & Results
The completed installation is expected to generate approximately 31,000kWh of renewable electricity every year.
Since commissioning, the system has consistently delivered excellent generation performance, with the customer reporting that it has exceeded expectations.
The additional battery storage has further improved system performance by increasing self-consumption and reducing exported energy.
