Project Overview

George Robertson recently completed a renewable energy installation for a new-build home at South Whiteness.

The project combined a ground-mounted solar PV array, Sigenergy battery storage system, whole-home backup capability, and EV charging infrastructure to create a highly resilient and future-ready energy solution.

The installation was designed to maximise self-consumption of renewable energy while providing backup power during grid outages and supporting the homeowner's transition to electric vehicle charging.

The Challenge

As this was a modern new-build property in a remote coastal location, the homeowner wanted an energy system capable of delivering long-term energy independence and resilience.

• Limited suitable roof space and orientation for a large solar array.
• Exposure to Shetland's challenging weather conditions.
• Significant battery storage requirements.
• Future-proofing for electric vehicle ownership.
• Backup power during grid interruptions.

The Solution

• 15 × Jinko 510W N-Type Bifacial Solar Panels
• Total Solar Capacity: 7.65kWp
• Sigenergy 5kW Hybrid Inverter
• Sigenergy Gateway with Whole Home Backup Capability
• 18.08kWh Sigenergy Battery Storage
• Ground Mounted Timber Solar Structure
• MyEnergi Zappi EV Charger
• Full MCS Certification and DNO Approval Process

Performance & Results

The completed system delivers an estimated annual generation of 5,592kWh, significantly reducing grid electricity consumption and helping the homeowner maximise use of self-generated renewable energy.

Key benefits include:

• Renewable solar generation
• Battery storage for increased self-consumption
• Whole-home backup capability
• Integrated EV charging
• Reduced energy costs
• Smart monitoring and control

Following commissioning, the customer expanded the battery storage system, increasing total storage capacity to 35.04kWh.

Why this project stands out?

This project demonstrates how renewable technologies can be integrated into a new-build property to create a highly efficient and resilient energy ecosystem.

The installation also showcases the flexibility of the Sigenergy platform, allowing battery capacity to be expanded as energy requirements evolve.
