Project Overview
We designed and installed a complete renewable energy system at a property in Whiteness, combining a east and west rooftop solar PV array, 18.08kWh Sigenergy battery storage, hybrid inverter technology, whole-home backup capability and a 7kW myenergi Zappi EV charger.
The system was designed to maximise renewable generation across the property's east and west-facing roof areas, store surplus electricity for later use and provide the homeowner with a flexible, future-ready energy system.
The completed installation incorporated 465W AIKO solar panels, a Sigenergy hybrid inverter, two 9.04kWh Sigenergy battery modules and associated gateway, metering, protection and monitoring equipment.
The Challenge
The property presented an excellent opportunity to utilise both sides of the roof, allowing the array to generate across a braoder portion of the day, rather than concentrating generation around midday.
The system also needed to store surplus solar generation for evening and overnight use, support electric vehicle charging, provide backup capability during grid interruptions. operate within the available network export limits and give the customer intelligent control and monitoring.
Our Solution
Following the survey and system design, we installed solar PV system comprising of AIKO 465W high efficiency panels across the east and west-facing roof areas.
The array was connected to a Sigenergy single-phase hybrid inverter, with export limit to 3.68kW to comply with the network requirements.
Two Sigenergy 9.04kWh battery modules provide 18.08kWh of installed battery storage, with approximately 17.52kWh usable capacity available for energy management and self-consumption.

East & West Solar PV Design
A key feature of this project is the use of both the east and west-facing roof elevations. Rather than concentrating all generation on one side of the property, the two-array design helps spread solar production across more of the day.
The original system modelling estimated annual generation at approximately 5,580kWh, with the combination of solar PV and battery storage predicted to achieve around 46.9% grid electricity independence, based on the consumption assumptions used during the design process.
Sigenergy Battery Storage
The substantial battery system allows electricity generated during periods of high solar production to be retained and used later rather than immediately exported.
This is particularly valuable for a large array where generation can exceed the property's immediate demand. The Sigenergy system intelligently manages solar PV generation, household demand, battery charging and discharging, grid import and export, time-of-use energy tariffs, backup operation and real-time system monitoring.
With 18.08kWh of battery storage, the customer has significant capacity to shift renewable energy from periods of generation into the evening and overnight.
Whole-Home Backup Capability
The Sigenergy Pro Gateway provides the infrastructure required for backup operation during a loss of grid power.
The system was designed with a dedicated earthing arrangement to allow safe island-mode operation, giving the customer additional resilience during network interruptions. The battery system is capable of island operation with a maximum output of 6kW, subject to available battery capacity and system demand.
Intergrated EV Charging
As part of the project,we also installed a 7kW myenergi Zappi EV charger. The EV charging application was approved through the ENA / SSEN Low Carbon Technology process before installation.
Integrating EV charging alongside solar and battery storage gives the homeowner the opportunity to make better use of renewable electricity produced on site while reducing reliance on public charging and imported grid electricity.
DNO & Electrical Compliance
We managed the design, network notification, installation, testing and commissioning process.
SSEN subsequently confirmed that the integrated solar PV and battery hybrid inverter installation met the requirements of the G98 notification process and updated its network records accordingly.
The electrical installation was also fully tested and certified in accordance with BS 7671 following completion.
